Thanks, America. You're absolutely wonderful. In your great wisdom you just elected a racist, misogynist, xenophobe as your next leader. This con man hasn't paid taxes in years, lost nearly a billion dollars in business dealings in the past and refuses to pay people who've done an honest day's work for him.

The Great Orange One makes up his own words, doesn't believe in climate change (even though the vast majority of scientists say so) and mocks the parents of dead American soldiers, the disabled and anyone else who doesn't share his point of view.

This reflects poorly on you not only because of your total lack of better judgement, but also because this man most likely mirrors your own belief systems. And that, sadly, is even worse (if anything could be worse).

Now we (the rest world) have to deal with the fallout. Because whenever your big ass moves it causes ripples that can be felt continents away. Not only are you setting yourselves back decades, the rest of us are caught in your wake.

Liberal Wynne

Ontarians voted in their provincial election today. They spoke loud and clear giving Kathleen Wynne's previous minority government a majority with 59 seats at Queens Park. Tim Hudak's PCs lost seats ending up with 27 and Andrea Horwath's NDP party stayed the course with 21.

I believe you could count it less of a win for Wynne and more of a loss for Hudak. His idea of cutting 100,000 government jobs in order to create 1,000,000 others didn't resonate with voters. Either that or they didn't have faith in his logic and/or believe the numbers he was projecting.

Numerous unions and other groups showed their displeasure in him in their many attack ads. Wynne benefitted greatly from this without even having to lift a finger. In light of his party's stunning defeat Tim Hudak resigned as their leader.

Another group that miscalculated voters sentiments were the pollsters. For weeks they had the election neck in neck between Hudak and Wynne. Some even suggested the NDP were up there with them. It was "too close to call", they said. Well, they couldn't have been more wrong. The Liberals blew everyone else out of the water.

Voters were willing to give Wynne the benefit of the doubt regarding the past Liberal scandals. Both Hudak and Horwath tried to pin the blame on her, but she emerged unscathed from beneath the shadow of Dalton McGuinty.

So a new era begins. Ontario has voted in their first female premier. And I believe she's the first openly gay premier in Canada as well. I'm proud of the fact that we as a province are so open and inclusive. I wish Ms. Wynne all the best and hope she can deliver on her promises and continue to make this a great province to live in.

Good-bye, Quebec

Quebec premier, Pauline Marios, has called a general election for April 7th. Her minority Parti Quebecois party currently leads the public opinion polls followed by the Liberals and the Coalition for Quebec's Future.

Marios has gained much notoriety for her party's controversial secularism charter in which public employees (such as teachers, doctors, nurses, judges and police) are forbidden to wear anything overtly religious. This would include turbans on Sikhs, skullcaps for Jews, head scarves on Muslim women or crosses for Christians.

People believe that if her party wins a majority in this provincial election she will hold a referendum on whether or not Quebec should separate from the rest of Canada. The last one was held in 1995.

Previously I was scared of losing Quebec if they decided to separate. But, now, such talk makes me angry. I'm a proud Canadian and I love this country. To me, some Quebecers can be whiners and racists.

They feel the need to enact laws to make their citizens conform to a narrow way of living instead of encouraging diversity (whether it's in their language laws or proposed secularism charter). It's diametrically opposed to everything Canada stands for.

What do they think they'll accomplish with separation? I'd suggest isolation and instability. They will be the lone French speaking territory in North America.

I'm guessing many businesses and industries will leave due to this as well as the uncertainty surrounding the governing party. Who knows what sort of other absurd laws they might enact when they are in power?

I believe if they separate they will not only lose citizens who are tired of their heavy handed language laws, but many professional ethnic minorities who are fed up with their lack of tolerance. Economically-speaking, this also could be detrimental.

So, Quebec, if you ever decide to separate from the rest of Canada I say, good riddance. You will see no tears shed by me this time.
