Happy Chinese New Year - Year of the Horse

My family and I went to Asian Legend at Finch and Leslie for dinner for Chinese New Year. It was on New Year's Eve, so it was, understandably, very busy. Wisely, they made reservations for 6:30 p.m. So we didn't have to wait.

Work was busy for me, so I arrived somewhat late. But, everyone else was already there so they ordered ahead of time.

We had quite a few dishes. You know, the usual beef and green vegetables, chicken fried rice and Shanghai noodles. We also had the soup dumplings that are quite tasty. And, for special occasions such as this, we ordered Peking Duck. It's always quite tasty with the crispy skin you wrap in soft, doughy "pancakes" with cucumbers and scallions and hoisin sauce.

Kung Hei Fat Choy

Daryl, Denise, Virginia, Tom, Christine, ?, Florianne, Nancy, Calvin

Happy Lunar New Year. 2012 is the Year of the Dragon. On Saturday night Tom and Florianne invited us over to their place for dinner. Tom prepared a lot of amazing dishes for everyone. It wasn't Chinese food he made however, but Thai. That's all right it was great nonetheless.

A few others pitched in with dishes of their own. Of course Florianne helped Tom in his preparation. Denise and Daryl made desserts too. It was all really delicious.

It had been around a year since I saw some of the folks there. It was nice to catch up again.

Most people arrived shortly after 7:00. By the time the first guest left it was nearing 2:00 in the morning. Where did the time go? The rest of us filed out soon after. After all Tom and Florianne had been wonderful hosts. We had to let them get to bed.

Dickie's Chinese New Year Party

Perry and Dickie organized a small gathering at Dickie's home for Chinese New Year last Saturday. Dickie's mom kindly made noodles for us. They were yummy. Everyone else brought snacks. Mostly junk food I'm afraid to say.

Perry brought his Rock Band game over for the Xb0x-360. He had Beatle's Rock Band as well as one of the original versions. I played it awhile ago at another gathering they had there. I have to say it's quite fun. Of course my favorite part is singing. It's similar to Karaoke. Playing the "guitar" is fun too. The "drums" are a bit hard though. It takes some coordination that's for sure.

There were other activities too. Some people played ping pong in the basement. Others just sat and chatted. Perry also rounded up a few people to play Scrabble with him too. It was an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday evening.
